Old as Hell Blues

from Common Prayers by Walter Martin

about

This is a remake of my song "Old As Hell" from my album Arts & Leisure. I actually wrote this song for Bob Weir's cowboy album called Blue Mountain. My friend Josh Kaufman (who I work with a lot) produced that album and Josh Ritter wrote the songs. I love Bob and had just done a session playing organ with him so I wrote this and submitted it as a late entry. I was too late in the game and the album was basically done so they didn't need my song. Worth a shot though, and writing with Bob in mind was fun. The part about Saturday night was inspired by Bob's song "One More Saturday Night." I still dream of an old rocker singing this song someday. If you know one, send it to them. I like this song a lot especially the part about having romantic breakfast with your elderly spouse.

lyrics

Lyrics:
Oh well
I'm old as hell
Supposed to be wiser
But I can't Tell
My life's been a cherry pie
But I'd like a couple more years before I say goodbye

A couple more stormy
Sunday mornings
Eating bacon and eggs
With my old girl with the silver curls
And long long shines legs
So here's my prayer to the man upstairs
