My Heart Has Lost Its Mind

about

In this song I was trying to capture the insane feeling of falling in love. My two references were remembering what it was like when I fell in love with my wife and the feeling I had as a kid first experiencing what it felt like to fall in love as I admired someone from from across the schoolyard (that's what my song 'Sing to Me' is about too).

I recorded it in an Airbnb in Woodstock NY in January 2020. For Christmas, my wife and girls gave me a week of solitary writing at a little cabin and this was the main thing I worked on.

lyrics

Lyrics:
Let's go
Where the moon hangs low
And let's dance
to the music from that crummy little band

'Cause you're the sweetest flower
On the sweetest tree
Spend all summer hiding from the bees

I see apples when I look at your eyes
Sweet green apples
And I’m falling in love another time
For goodness sake my heart has lost its mind

Love
It ain't
Riddles and rhymes
No, it speaks to me
Crystalline

And it tears up everything that I've designed
And leads me down a lane of trumpet vines
For goodness sake my heart has lost its mind
